About Us

 SceneLux was founded by David Bennion-Pedley in 2023, following his decision to step away from his role as Head of Lighting and Video at Leeds Playhouse to focus on the part of the job he has always enjoyed most: building set electrics and practical props. 

David’s formal electrical training began at LAMDA, where he attended City of Westminster College as part of his technical theatre training. Later, in Leeds, he completed his electrical qualifications at Leeds College of Technology.

 He has worked professionally in lighting and video since 2000, beginning as a casual technician in London venues while training, before progressing through the roles of Assistant, Deputy, Chief Electrician, and Head of Lighting in producing theatres, working closely with lighting designers on new productions. 

Over the years, David has seen set electrics evolve significantly as LED and control technologies have advanced, and has collaborated with lighting designers, set designers, and heads of construction to integrate lighting and electrics into scenery. This has included both one-off installations and touring productions, with an emphasis on solid installation and systems that remain reliable over the life of a production or installation.

Today, David leads every project at SceneLux, working with trusted freelance technicians and production electricians. SceneLux undertakes a range of projects, either directly for clients or alongside scenic workshops, delivering practical, well-engineered solutions that fit both the brief and the budget.
